Frequently Asked Questions

Why see a registered dietitian as opposed to an unlicensed nutritionist?

When you see a registered dietitian you know that person has completed a four year degree in Human Nutrition as well as a comprehensive fifth year dietetic internship and has then passed the board exam.  To keep up with their registration dietitians must continue to work towards professional development credits to ensure they are up to date with the latest nutrition research.  Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist you need no degree or certification to be one.  You are not sure if you are seeing someone that knows what they are talking about or someone that does not base their facts on science.  Whoever you choose to do your nutrition counseling make sure they are Licensed Dietetic Nutritionists (LDN) and or Registered Dietitians (RD).

Can you help me lose weight quickly?

There is a healthy safe way to lose weight and that is what we teach.  Rapid weight loss is not good for your body and studies show the weight tends to come back with rapid weight loss.  We have found that a gradual weight loss with realistic goals has the best chance for long term success and helps people learn how to create a healthy lifestyle and not a diet.  Our program is not about deprivation and starvation it is about learning how to eat and cook healthy, be active and feel good about yourself.

When/Why should I see a dietitian?

It would never be a waste of your time or of a dietitian’s time to sit down and talk about ways to improve your lifestyle.  No one is perfect and we can always improve our health.  When you should see a dietitian is when your doctor has told you it would be in your best interest to lose weight, you have gained weight recently and have had a hard time losing it on your own, you have tried dieting in the past and have yo-yoed your weight up and up, or you have recently been diagnosed with a health condition in which your doctor has told you dietary changes could help.
